While some people love to talk about themselves, I find it uncomfortable when asked “tell me a little about yourself.” So here it goes as if we were meeting face to face after I nervously laugh and try to sum myself up in my head. Which ha I can’t!
I have a bachelors degree in English specifically Creative Writing from Rhodes College. Did I become a magazine editor like I dreamed of since childhood? Maybe one day. Instead I moved home after graduating and gave myself a year to figure out what I wanted to do career wise and where I wanted to move to. During that year, I studied Interior Design in a graduate program at St. Mary’s University. I started a jewelry line called Cita Jewelry in which I would buy huge vintage jewelry lots, break them apart, and design modern, statement jewelry using the broken pieces. I also fell in love.
After I shucked my “year of self discovery” plan, I settled back into San Antonio. I focused on my jewelry business selling to local boutiques and in trunk shows. It was during this time, I learned the wholesale end of retail and observed how women shop so to speak (which is still fascinating to me). Three years later, I decided I was ready for something bigger after seeing a void in the local retail market. I opened a women’s contemporary fashion and lifestyle boutique called Aquarius in 2o10. Aquarius was an amazing adventure for 10 years. After surviving barely at times the Pandemic of 2010, I was ready to downsize and open a new much more curated store concept. The SJ was the best of Aquarius plus more gift and home products. I finally listened to my gut which was telling me that it was time to move on from retail. Again I was ready something bigger or just different. I hung my retail hat in 2022 and here I am.
This blog is my platform to share the findings from my love of the hunt, campfire stories on my personal life, the ebb and flows of adulthood they don’t teach you in school, and everything in between. My mind is a pin ball machine that bounces between a conversation I had two weeks ago, a pair of shoes I want, what doesn’t work about the mirror in our entry way, my next trip, and should I have cocktail at 5pm to name a few topics…I hope to capture some of that in my best prose here.
